In many serious accidents, law enforcement officials take photographs of the scene and vehicles immediately after the accident. Because tire marks and other evidence of the accident can disappear very quickly after an accident, by the time we get to the scene some or all of the evidence might have disappeared. We use a mathematical software tool (photogrammetry) that allows us to extract the information contained in the photographs of the scene and vehicles. We combine this extracted information with our measurements to build precise models of the scene and vehicles as they were immediately after the accident.

Areas we typically address using photogrammetry:

• Even when the physical evidence is gone, photogrammetry helps us bring it back precisely
• Positions of tire marks, gouge marks, debris, tire paths through the shoulder and median, glass, etc.
• Vehicle deformation derived from photographs
